Founded in 1881 by Clara Barton, the American Red Cross was chartered by Congress in 1900 to provide national and international relief during disasters. It also provides relief to the military and facilitates communication between the Armed Forces and their families. The first Red Cross Month was proclaimed in 1943 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and has been so proclaimed by every president thereafter.

Maud Smith Marks Branch Library is having a Festival with crafts, dancing, and food. There is no registration required, and all ages are welcome. The party will be held on Saturday, September 17th, from 1PM-4PM.

Rosenberg’s Hispanic Heritage Day will also take place on Saturday, September 17th, from 10 AM-6PM. The downtown Rosenberg event will feature Mariachi bands, dance performances, and cultural exhibits throughout the day. The Fort Bend Hispanic Heritage Forum will have a booth and is helping the City coordinate activities and entertainment throughout the event. There will be plenty of activities for the kids, and the Art League of Fort Bend and Gulf Coast Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists will be on hand with exhibits and displays.

Morton Ranch High School Performing Arts Center is holding their Seventh Annual Latin Fest on Friday, September 23rd from 7PM-10PM. This Latin Cultural/Talent show presents the dancing, singing and culture of every Latin country along with Special Guests, Tati Soleil, Grupo Azendado, and 104.9 FM Tú Música! Tickets go on sale September 19 at the school during lunch for $5, and are also available at the door for $7. All proceeds go towards the MRHS Latinos Unidos Scholarship Fund. Any student who participates in the show then becomes eligible for a scholarship. This 32 acre park contains a lake is stocked with rainbow trout and channel catfish. There is bank and pier access.
Other facilities include restrooms, pavilions, picnic/barbeque areas, a playground, a walking trail, tennis and basketball courts, a softball/baseball field, and a Community Center. The Community Center has an indoor swimming pool and a fitness room. A variety of classes are held there including yoga, water aerobics and American Red Cross Swim Lessons. Topping off all of that are two 18-hole miniature golf courses. Pets are allowed as long as they are on a leash.

Seabourne Creek Nature Park

This 164 acre park contains Lake Seabourne, a 4 acre lake with piers. It is stocked with bass, perch and catfish. Other facilities include a pavilion, the R.W. Lindsey Gazebo, playgrounds, a 700 foot boardwalk through the park’s wetlands, walking and biking trails, a butterfly garden, a prairie restoration area, and restrooms. Pets are not permitted.
