My daughter and I both love gardening and being outside in nature. Despite the heat here in Katy, Texas, we decided to finally make a butterfly garden in our backyard.
This was a labor-intensive project, but the workout was definitely worth the result. I love looking out the window and seeing all the color instead of just dried up grass. Also, several of the plants that we have chosen are specifically meant to attract butterflies!
We bought the limestone, soil, mulch, cone flowers, black eyed susans, and a few other plants that looked nice – all at the Lowe’s on Katy Freeway. Everyone there was very helpful, and they even loaded all those stones into the truck for us. Jonathan was awarded the job of bringing it all to the backyard. (Thanks Hubby!)
We also visited Beyond Paradise Nursery for our lovely purple butterfly bushes and bright multicolor butterfly weed (milk weed). The kids enjoyed some popsicles and saying hello to the resident cats there, while we looked around.
Drum roll, please! Trader Joe’s has arrived in Katy, Texas! Their products include hard to find fresh fruit, prepared frozen and refrigerated entrees, Kosher meat, Mochi ice cream, and Chocolate Brooklyn babka. The fresh flowers and plants are beautiful and reasonably priced. It is located at the rear of the shopping center with plenty of parking. I have been there twice and have been twice impressed by the selection of items, friendliness of the employees and reasonable prices.
According to a study done by a group called Welcomemat Services, a zip code in Katy was the hottest zip code in the United States during the month of May. Nearly 600 families are reported to have either moved into a home or an apartment in Katy during May.
When I drove past Westheimer Lakes North Park Plaza Shopping Center I saw the sign for a new restaurant named Sapore and thought, “Oh, another Japanese restaurant!” Well, surprise, it’s an Italian restaurant and “sapore” means to “taste” or to “savor” in Italian.
We have enjoyed Sapore Ristorante located at 6734 Westheimer Lakes North Park Plaza in Katy, Texas both dining in and take out. The spaghetti bolognese, pollo alla Marsala, and pollo parmigiana were wonderful, as was their presentation! Each plate emerges from the kitchen artfully decorated. This is definitely the place for a fine dining experience in Katy.
As a native of Brooklyn, New York I have been anxiously awaiting the opportunity to try Grimaldi’s “The pizza that made the Brooklyn Bridge famous.” This over-100-year-old pizza-making institution is the most award winning pizzeria in the United States. The pizza is prepared in a coal fired brick oven which offers a unique flavor and a crisp crust. Our group ordered a pizza, a calzone, a Caesar salad and a Grimaldi’s house salad. The portions were huge! The food was fresh. As New Yorkers, my husband and I loved it! My children, who grew up in Texas, prefer a traditional crust and a restaurant with more food options. All I can say is that my husband and I plan to return and are glad to find Grimaldi’s in Katy, Texas!
