It is hard for me to believe that Carina is almost a year old. It is even harder for me to believe that a year ago, I was still pregnant! I have only recently cleared my closet of all signs of maternity wear. I think that I did a pretty good job of avoiding any oversized bag-shaped apparel while not breaking the bank. Here are a few tips and essentials:
Cute, flat shoes are a must. Sleeping was a lot easier with my Boppy full-body pillow, and doing anything was a lot easier when I wore my maternity belt (especially toward the end of my pregnancy).
Start shopping in your own closet! Look for stretchy or knit pieces that can be worn as you grow. Then, move on to bargain stores like Target and Old Navy. You can get a lot for your money and still look stylish and be comfortable. A Pea in the Pod is my other favorite as well as wearing non-maternity clothing in sizes that fit my new body shape.
There are many styles of maternity pants. I am partial to the ones that have the large stretchy panel that goes over the belly rather than the under-the-belly type. A pair of black pants and a pair of brown or grey will be great for all occasions. You should also have at least one pair of maternity jeans.
Buy a couple of pretty dresses for parties and to go out and about. I wore a lot of skirts – they are an easy way to dress, be comfortable, and look put together! Invest in a few of the popular fold-over-top skirts to accommodate your growing bump.
If you will be pregnant during the summer, it is a good idea to invest in a maternity swim suit – there are great styles and prints to choose from. You may also want a few pairs of shorts. For winter, especially in Katy, you can probably use your regular coat open and just wear a lot of layers. Honestly, I always felt way too hot (and big) to wear a coat.
