Butterfly Garden

My daughter and I both love gardening and being outside in nature. Despite the heat here in Katy, Texas, we decided to finally make a butterfly garden in our backyard.
This was a labor-intensive project, but the workout was definitely worth the result. I love looking out the window and seeing all the color instead of just dried up grass. Also, several of the plants that we have chosen are specifically meant to attract butterflies!
We bought the limestone, soil, mulch, cone flowers, black eyed susans, and a few other plants that looked nice – all at the Lowe’s on Katy Freeway. Everyone there was very helpful, and they even loaded all those stones into the truck for us. Jonathan was awarded the job of bringing it all to the backyard. (Thanks Hubby!)
We also visited Beyond Paradise Nursery for our lovely purple butterfly bushes and bright multicolor butterfly weed (milk weed). The kids enjoyed some popsicles and saying hello to the resident cats there, while we looked around.
Beyond Paradise Nursery is located at 25445 Westheimer Parkway, 77494.

Carina and I will be doing a butterfly project next month. For her 5th birthday, I bought her the Insect Lore Giant Butterfly Garden. We will soon be ordering our first Cup of Caterpillars!
This is a great project for kids of all ages and a wonderful way for them witness nature in action!
