Week 2 of Human Trafficking Awareness Month includes the Houston Rescue and Restore Coalition 4th Annual Shop Smart: A Fair Trade Shopping Market. Simply shopping fair trade will give you an opportunity to learn more about human trafficking and ways to combat it through conscientious purchases. The event will highlight the importance that shopping fair trade has on eliminating human trafficking.
This year’s event features a larger space with lots of great vendors and door prizes. Join HRRC to learn more about conscious consumerism, make a difference in the fight against slavery, and get a head start on your holiday shopping!
Please stop by anytime between 10 am – 2 pm; however, prizes will be announced at 11:30, 12:30, and 1:30 pm.

Babaloo Gallery is proud to open its first fall show tomorrow, Thursday, September 13, from 6:30 to 8:30.
The Artist Reception is for Luisa Duarte in her first one-person exhibition in Katy!
Duarte is originally from Maracaibo, Venezuela, and keeps her studio in downtown Houston. She is an architect and an artist.
“Cromatica” will include works on paper, sculptures and works on canvas. Curator Ana Villaronga-Roman describes Duarte’s work as “fantastic explorations into space and color with incredible attention to detail. Each piece is its own little world.”
On April 27, 2012 watch and hear professional and student musicians perform jazz! Although there will be performances all evening, at 7:30 PM there will be a Feature Concert by The Texas Music Festival Jazz Project.
On April 28, 2012 professional guitarists and jazz ensembles will also perform and teach master classes at the Katy Guitar Festival. The Feature Concert that day will be performed by The Brad Leali Sextet at 7:30PM.
Renowned artists will also have their art on display sponsored by ARTkaty.
The location on both days for this wonderful event is the Katy High School Performing Arts Center located at 6331 Highway Boulevard in Katy, Texas.

The mission of this organization is “We collaborate to help establish arts awareness, arts support, arts education, arts viability, and arts availability to all residents of the greater Katy area – City of Katy, bordering neighborhoods, and connected communities.” Membership is open to all and the group holds a monthly Katy Art Mixer. The next Mixer will be held at 6pm on August 19 at the Good To Go restaurant located at 23144C Cinco Ranch Boulevard and it is free. Featured will be artist Marguerite Baldwin with her works entitled, “As Worlds Juxtapose.”
