This year Constitution Day will be observed on September 16 rather than September 17. It commemorates the formation and ratification of the Constitution by thirty-nine men, all delegates to the Constitutional Convention on September 17, 1787; as well as those who have become United States citizens by naturalization or by coming of age. It is part of the “Constitution Week” celebration which runs from September 17 – September 23. All federally funded educational institutions will provide educational programming on the history of the American Constitution on this day. The United States’ population is currently over 311 million. When the Constitution was signed, it was only four million!
