Summer break has come to an end, and school season is upon us! Carina is starting Kindergarten next week, and we have been busy getting everything ready!
I decided to buy some labels to help with keeping things organized, and chose two brands to try out. Our sweet friend also gave Carina a set of vinyl monogram labels for her birthday, so we are fully stocked!
The first set I chose are from Kidecals. This company advertises that all of their labels are waterproof, laundry safe, microwave safe, dishwasher safe, and BPA free.
Below is a photo of our “mixed set” of “blue bead” style lables. The set includes 24 classic labels (2″ round) and 48 mini labels (1″ round). You can personalize your colors and the information that you want your labels to include. http://kidecals.com/
The second set that I chose are from Name Bubbles. These are from the School Labels Pack, which allows you to choose from several different designs and includes pages of stickers for specific purposes – some are dishwasher safe and some are laundry safe. http://www.namebubbles.com/
Below is a snap of some vinyl monograms made by Simply Monogram It. I am looking forward to using these too! You can check out all the great options here: https://instagram.com/simplymonogramit/
It has been more than three months since we returned from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and my five year old granddaughter, Carina, is still excitedly talking about it!!
Not only was this our first trip to the Dominican Republic, it was also our first experience staying in an all-inclusive resort, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana. Everything was fantastico!
The stay included unlimited food, beverages and entertainment. The beach was beautiful, and the resort expansive. This is a family-friendly resort, and even though adult activities were available, there was also plenty of hoopla for families with children.
On the grounds are thirteen pools, nine restaurants, a golf course, miniature golf, tennis courts, shops, an arcade, a climbing wall, and a fabulous spa and salon. Nightly entertainment included dancing at multiple venues.
Another adventure that we enjoyed was to go off of the hotel property and take a tour of Monkey Land. Adorable tiny squirrel monkeys, living in their natural habitat, ate from our handheld food bowls, jumped up and down from our arms, and one even made a nest on top of my head! We then headed to Maria’s House, to tour a typical country home and coffee plantation. So unique!
Carina says that her favorite three things about our trip to the Dominican Republic were the dancing, the beach, and the food. I’ll second that!
Even at fifty plus, my skin looks amazing! It is practically wrinkle free and clear. Although some of this is good genetics, I attribute ninety percent to good hygiene. Having tried many, many cleansers I recommend and use daily NaturaBisse Facial Cleansing Cream with A.H.A. Although it is a bit pricey at $49.00, a small amount goes a long way! Its effectiveness has been dramatic in my case. Family members and friends compliment my skin when I use it regularly. When I am distracted and miss several days of use, people are silent. So, for noticeably improved skin, give it a try!
A lovely decorated venue, delicious food, local Texas ingredients, and Kosher all describe the several wonderful meals that we have enjoyed at the Genesis Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar. We have eaten dinner, brunch and even ordered take-out. All were fantastic. Our group has tried a variety of dishes including the tabouli, matbucha, babaganoush, hummus platter with homemade pita bread, the Asian salad, blackened salmon, Long Island Duckling, free range organic chicken kebab, potato hash with pastrami, breakfast tacos, and the lox Benedict. The most unique food item that we tried were the challah tacos! They were fantastic, as was everything else!
The table service and the the saxophonist playing at dinner were superb! Genesis Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar is a perfect spot for a date night, as well as for entertaining friends and family for brunch. The take-out was packaged in neat sturdy taped containers. We are looking forward to returning for Russian night on August 22nd!

This riveting movie stars Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds. It is a true story about the Nazi invasion of Austria, and the Government of Austria’s confiscation of the 1907 portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer, a Jewishwoman married to wealthy sugar magnate, Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer. It was painted by world renowned Austrian artist Gustav Klimt.
In 1998 the Austrian government passed a new law, promoted by its Green Party, which called for the return of art stolen during World War II. The niece of Adele Bloch-Bauer, Maria Altmann, learned upon the death of her sister, that there was a will designating the disposition of this portrait. From that vantage point, Mrs. Altmann embarks on a quest to reclaim it. This story focuses on the Austrian government’s subsequent resistance to enforcing its own law. The movie includes many flashbacks of the main character’s life in Austria as a Jew under the Nazi regime. It is, at times, difficult to watch, however it’s raw accuracy is compelling and necessary. Thankfully, Maria Altmann and her devoted attorney won the case against the Austrian government and recovered the portrait, which now is on exhibit in the Neue Galerie New York.
This movie is a must see in terms of its historic significance and its assertion that through perseverance righteousness can prevail.
I recently attended story hour with my grandchildren at the Beaumont Public Library Miller Branch and discovered one of the sweetest stories of all time, “Mole’s in Love.” A young mole named Morris set out in spring to find love in all the wrong places, mainly due to bad eyesight! But, after much heartbreak, love found him! Similar to Dr. Seuss’ “Oh the Places You’ll Go,” this story will be loved and passed down by young and old. Bravo to the children’s librarian at the Beaumont Public Library Miller Branch for selecting and sharing this book with the children during story hour.
