The Beaumont Convention and Visitors Bureau has a wonderful program called the Official Beaumont Birdies Passport! My grandchildren and I enjoyed going to eight different museums in Beaumont, Texas, getting our passports stamped, and then selecting a plush toy bird typical of the birds of southeast Texas with its own call, name, profile, and favorite local hangout. The museums were all incredibly interesting and fun! We went to the following:
Art Museum of Southeast Texas
Beaumont Children’s Museum
Fire Museum of Texas
Spindletop Gladys City
Energy Museum of Southeast Texas
Lamar University Reardon Honors College

“We are excited to continue growing in Texas by creating an additional 1,000 full-time roles at this new fulfillment center in Katy,” said Akash Chauhan, Amazon’s vice president of North American Operations. “In fact, beyond the more than the thousands of employees who currently work for Amazon in Texas, more than 160,000 authors, sellers and developers in Texas are growing their businesses and reaching new customers on Amazon products and services.”
We are pleased to officially announce that Amazon plans to build their tenth fulfillment center in Texas in the City of Katy. Katy has recently been associated with distinguished companies such as Buc-ee’s, Pepperl+Fuchs, Transwestern, and now Amazon, a Fortune 20 firm that will bring a $160 million project along with 1,000 new jobs to our community. This project was part of the City’s strategic planning for annexation and continued financial strength. We are honored to have such a great company plant their flag in the City of Katy. http://cityofkaty.com/13994-2/
It has been more than three months since we returned from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and my five year old granddaughter, Carina, is still excitedly talking about it!!
Not only was this our first trip to the Dominican Republic, it was also our first experience staying in an all-inclusive resort, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana. Everything was fantastico!
The stay included unlimited food, beverages and entertainment. The beach was beautiful, and the resort expansive. This is a family-friendly resort, and even though adult activities were available, there was also plenty of hoopla for families with children.
On the grounds are thirteen pools, nine restaurants, a golf course, miniature golf, tennis courts, shops, an arcade, a climbing wall, and a fabulous spa and salon. Nightly entertainment included dancing at multiple venues.
Another adventure that we enjoyed was to go off of the hotel property and take a tour of Monkey Land. Adorable tiny squirrel monkeys, living in their natural habitat, ate from our handheld food bowls, jumped up and down from our arms, and one even made a nest on top of my head! We then headed to Maria’s House, to tour a typical country home and coffee plantation. So unique!
Carina says that her favorite three things about our trip to the Dominican Republic were the dancing, the beach, and the food. I’ll second that!
